Outreach & Resource Navigator
Position Type: Part-Time (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10 AM – 4 PM)
Compensation: $25/hour
Contract: 1-year term (with potential for renewal)
Location: Calgary, AB (onsite)
Reports to: Director of Outreach
Start Date : March 18, 2025
Position Summary
This part-time role involves meeting with women impacted by sexual exploitation, trafficking, domestic violence, or extreme hardship in an outreach and drop-in setting.
This is a dynamic frontline role that requires an individual who is:
Ready to engage with all who drop in.
Well-resourced and knowledgeable about available supports.
Prepared to walk alongside women, meeting them wherever they are in their journey.
The Outreach & Resource Navigator will be responsible for:
Responding to crises that occur onsite.
Engaging in one-on-one support to address a range of needs, including:
Basic needs assistance (food, clothing, shelter referrals).
Talk therapy and emotional support in a trauma-informed manner.
Referrals to specialized services (healthcare, addiction recovery, legal aid, etc.).
Exit and safety planning for those wanting to leave exploitation.
Resource navigation to help clients access and understand complex systems.
Supporting women in reporting violence or assaults to Calgary Police Services (CPS) when needed.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Engage with victims and survivors onsite during set hours (Tuesday–Thursday, 10 AM–4 PM).
Engage with women in the community and along the stroll, building trust and rapport.
Be present on the outreach floor during walk-in hours, actively mingling with clients.
Complete food hamper intakes for HER Victory clients.
Support clients in applying for essential services, including:
Income support and government benefits.
Housing and shelters.
Addiction treatment programs.
ID replacement and legal documentation.
Case manage in an outreach setting, recognizing the fluid nature of working with those experiencing unstable housing.
Assist clients in developing:
Safety plans.
Exit strategies from exploitation.
Relapse prevention plans.
Stay current on available resources in Calgary, including housing, addiction support, pregnancy services, shelters, and ID programs.
Update HER Victory’s resource guide regularly with new and relevant information.
Report bad dates to CPS through the anonymous tip line.
Address basic needs and provide immediate support when women drop in.
Confidently use de-escalation techniques when needed.
Record, update, and maintain client files and documentation in accordance with HER Victory’s protocols.
Provide trauma-informed, client-centered support that respects individual journeys.
Submit monthly reports to the Director of Outreach with statistics, updates, and trends.
Qualifications and Skills:
At a minimum, a two-year diploma from a public post-secondary institution in a related field (outreach work, case management, behavioural science, etc.).
Experience in crisis intervention and case management, with the ability to assess risk and respond appropriately.
Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, substance use, and sexual exploitation.
Understanding of the cycles of change and addiction, and how they impact a client’s journey.
Proficiency in Calgary and Alberta’s community resources, including housing, addiction recovery, income support, and emergency services.
Excellent assessment skills, with the ability to evaluate needs and connect clients to appropriate supports.
Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team while also being self-sufficient and proactive.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), ensuring clear documentation and effective client interaction.
Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility.
Well-developed conflict resolution, de-escalation, and people management skills.
Empathetic and compassionate approach toward individuals impacted by sexual exploitation, trafficking, and addiction.
Must obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Clearance prior to starting the role.

Accreditations:
Preferred: Diploma in Social Work or a related field.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in outreach, support work, and/or case management is highly valued and will be considered.

Trauma/Addictions Counsellor
Mental health services are a vital component of the care we provide at HER Victory. We are seeking an experienced Addictions/Trauma Counsellor to offer individual counselling to women navigating cycles of addiction, abuse, and trauma. This includes supporting clients in substance-use recovery, grief, pregnancy, and those fleeing human trafficking or sexual exploitation.
This position is a one-year contract with the possibility of annual renewal.
THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will bring expertise, compassion, and professionalism to this role. Key qualifications include:
Master’s degree in counselling, psychology, social work, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
A minimum of 2 years of recent experience providing trauma-informed counselling in community or hospital settings, specifically with women impacted by trauma, addiction, or exploitation.
Trauma-informed care experience is required.
Membership with a professional association (e.g., Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association or Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists).
Assets:
Certification in Genesis Counselling.
Training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
Experience in relapse prevention counselling.
Ability to operate as an independent contractor, including obtaining and maintaining proper liability insurance.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Director of Program and Housing, the Addictions/Trauma Counsellor will play a key role in supporting the mental health of HER Victory clients. Responsibilities include:
Providing comprehensive one-on-one clinical counselling for residents of the HER Home safe house, working off-site on Fridays (counselling room provided).
Conducting initial client assessments to determine the best course of counselling.
Maintaining confidential client records.
Co-creating safety plans with clients.
Demonstrating a strong understanding of substance use and its impact on women.
Collaborating with the Program and Housing Director and live-in staff to monitor and evaluate program outcomes.
Attending check-in meetings as needed regarding resident progress and concerns.
Reporting high-risk or concerning situations to the Director of Program and Housing.
