Volunteering with women who are actively dealing with addiction, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, and trauma can be immensely rewarding. Still, it's important to be aware of the intensity and potential challenges involved. The women we serve are often facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and the work can be emotionally demanding.
It's crucial to approach this volunteer work with compassion, empathy, and a non-judgmental attitude. You'll likely hear stories of deep pain and struggle, and you may witness challenging behaviors or situations. We will ensure you are not alone in this work. You'll be part of a team that includes other volunteers, staff members, and mental health professionals.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
ONSITE OUTREACH
Front line, serving women caught in the sex trade, exploited or at risk of or currently being trafficked. Working at our outreach location, located on Calgary’s last prostitution stroll, up to 30+ women per day come in for clothing, food hampers, hot meals, showers, hygiene kits and care packages. This is a safe space where our team welcomes, loves, prays with and creates trusting relationships with individuals, meeting them where they are at.
WHEN: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
WHERE: Forest Lawn Outreach Facility - 1840 - 38th Street SE
TIME: 11 AM - 3 PM
COMMITMENT: 1 Year Commitment
PARLOUR OUTREACH
Parlour outreach is a ministry of presence. We bring gifts once a month to ladies working in the massage parlours (body rub centres). Our goal is to build trusting relationships with these women in the hopes of offering social supports, a listening ear and sharing the hope of Jesus with them. This is a ministry which requires a 1 year commitment as it takes time to build rapport with each woman.
WHEN: 2nd Friday of the Month
WHERE: Centre Street Church, Bridgeland Location - 235 8a Street NE
TIME: 6:30 PM - 8:45 PM
COMMITMENT: 1 Year Commitment
PROSTITUTION STROLL OUTREACH
Stroll Ministry is a night time, front line ministry. Our team walks the prostitution stroll for 3-4 hours on Friday evenings. We bring connection, essential self care supplies and prayer. We have a male on each team with the essential role of distracting and engaging the men (often pimps) allowing the female volunteers on our team privacy to pray and connect with the women on the stroll. Our role is to remind them how loved they are and where they can go for help. It is a privilege to meet these women where they are at and bring hope.
WHEN: Fridays - once or twice per month
WHERE: Eastside Victory Outreach Church - 1840 - 38th Street SE
TIME: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
COMMITMENT: 1 Year Commitment
HER HOME SUPPORT
CLASSROOM SUPPORT (with safe house residents)
Classroom volunteers participate in classroom programming with safe-house residents, creating community and connection, as they walk through curriculum designed to support their healing and recovery. Volunteers engage with women under the direction of skilled facilitators.
TIME: One day per week - Mon, Tues or Thurs (9 AM - 3 PM)
REQUIREMENT: Outreach experience, preferably within exploitation. Trauma-informed experience an asset.
COMMITMENT: 1 Year Commitment
RESPITE LIVE-IN (Her Home)
Respite volunteers serve on a casual basis, providing coverage for our Live-In Volunteer as needed. This role is primarily to provide a warm and loving presence in the home, conduct curfew checks, and stay overnight in the house, maintaining the confidentiality of the residents and the location of HER Home. Respite volunteers will have 24/7 support by on-call staff and are not required to intervene should situations arise, but simply report.
TIME: Casual. Daily evenings/overnights (i.e. 7pm—8am) As-needed basis. Typical coverage ranges from 3 days to a week.
REQUIREMENT: Live at the house for short periods of time providing a warm, stable presence in the home, conduct curfew checks and report.
